contrasting single to couple living

If you are doubtful about marrying or settling down with a single partner, or if that has made you feel your individuality might be compromised, there may be advantages of living that you should be aware of.

Couple life does not mean giving up your independence according to many. It means that you have had a chance to live the single life before meeting someone and have then decided that sharing responsibilities would be more advantageous than living on your own.

Here are some points of comparison:

1. Married life allows you a certain sense of calm. The work of the family can be divided between two people who look over common interests. An individual may not reach this sense of calm. Pundits of the single lifestyle have argued that knowing how to live singly can also induce a state of calm.
2. Single life allows a person to go out with friends without having to make any particular choice that the spouse/partner is against. There is a sense of not having to make as many compromises when you are alone. In many couples friendships change as a result of the influence that one partner has over the other.
3. A single lifestyle is often regarded as more adventurous because the person has a chance of making and breaking rules while being only accountable to himself. An adventurous lifestyle can be referred to freer traveling that the individual can do and being less restricted in personal choices.
4. Couple life offers more stability in the form of having someone to cushion stress in case of an emergency. I have seen several single friends change their personalities markedly when faced with life, death issues that would probably have not happened had there been some effective moral support in the picture offered by a spouse or common law partner.
5. Single life allows greater freedom of movement. Living with a partner restricts ones mobility because of impositions that may arise or obligations of having to assist the partner take care of family etc.
6. Single life allows you to drop a relationship without having to be concerned about potentially messy situations arising from couples that separate and have to work out the custody of their children
7. You can participate in your children's lives as a single parent these days so one is not obliged to stay together with a mate to do so. However there are critics who argue that children are better raised when a couple is present probably owing to a more balanced situation when each parent assists the other or when the family work load is divided.

COUNTING FUN WITH GUMMI BEARS

Subject : Mathematics
Activity : understand the concept of numbers using familiar manipulatives.
Objectives : the students will be ;

• count the numbers one through ten out loud
• identify the numbers one through ten
• show the numbers one through ten using manipulatives

Integrated development: through this activity, the child also be able to achieve this objective in the following area of development;

Art & craft :

• to create a poster collage from one to ten using manila card,pictures of gummie bears and glue

Duration : 45 minutes
Age group : 3 years
Materials :

• a bowl for each student in the class containing ten gummi bears.
• cut outs in the shape of bears with the numbers one through ten written on their stomach

Procedure :

1. begin the lesson by showing a stuffed animal of a bear
2. ask the students what animal is that you are holding
3. continue the discussion by allowing them to talk about any stuffed animals they might own
4. explain to the students that they will be learning something very special today, to count, using bears
5. place the teddy bear cut outs on the blackboard which display the corresponding number. After that , review the bears on the blackboard by counting aloud together

1. explain the student that they will each be given a bowl that has ten gummi bears in it.
2. make sure to enforce the rule that they are not to eat them until it is snack time!
3. also show them the bear cut outs they will reeive and show them how they each have a different number on them
4. after the material is passed out begin the game by calling out a number one through ten
5. the task of the student is to find the bear that has that number on its stomach and using thier gummi bears show thatnumber oon their cut out.
6. it is a great idea to have bears already made displaying the correct number of gummi bears to use as an aid in checking the answers.

Extension activity :

• divide the students get into small group and playy the game themselves , using each other to check their understand of numbers
• or, a class handout could be given to the students asking them to demonstrate the numbers one through ten
